A Student Checklist Before Submitting AI-Assisted Work

Use this checklist to make sure assisted academic writing is transparent, source-based, and still genuinely yours.

Confirm the policy

Before submitting, check whether the course allows AI assistance and under what conditions. If the policy is unclear, ask before the deadline rather than after a concern is raised.

Identify your contribution

For each major section, ask what you contributed: a claim, interpretation, example, source connection, or critique. If a section has no clear contribution from you, revise it.

Document assistance

Keep prompts, notes, and revision history when appropriate. If disclosure is required, describe the use briefly and honestly. Transparency is easier when documentation already exists.

Check citations and source fit

Make sure every borrowed idea is cited and every cited source actually supports the sentence attached to it. AI-assisted drafts can sound plausible while weakening source accuracy, so this final check matters.
