Using AI Feedback Without Letting It Flatten Your Voice

AI feedback can improve clarity, but writers still need to preserve their reasoning, emphasis, and disciplinary tone.

Feedback should serve the argument

Not every suggestion improves a paper. Some edits make prose smoother while weakening the writer's emphasis. Accept changes only when they make the claim clearer or the evidence easier to follow.

Protect discipline-specific language

Academic fields have their own vocabulary. If feedback replaces precise terms with general ones, the paragraph may become easier to read but less accurate. Keep the terms that carry important meaning.

Vary sentence purpose

A strong paragraph usually contains setup, evidence, analysis, and transition. If every sentence begins to sound equally polished, revise for purpose. Let some sentences define, some challenge, and some connect.

Read the final draft as yourself

The final test is simple: would you say this argument in a seminar or explain it to a supervisor? If the answer is no, revise until the paper sounds like a careful version of your own thinking.
